Stevenage with Hybrid Working

At the IET, making our world a better place starts by creating a better place for our people.

At the IET you’ll have more than just a job. Our work is exciting and challenging, connecting the people who solve the problems that matter. It means working with us has real meaning and impact, and you’ll grow – professionally and personally – in ways you never thought possible.

We’re also making significant investments in our people, including providing a modern, vibrant workplace and embracing hybrid working.

What you'll be doing

As the Global Networks and Communities Manager, you’ll play a central role in shaping and managing our member groups, local networks (LNs), and technical networks (TNs) worldwide.

You’ll be responsible for ensuring these networks align with the IET’s strategic objectives, fostering engagement and growth globally. Working closely with the Head of Volunteering and Networks, you’ll develop flexible frameworks for emerging networks, oversee governance processes, and act as the key advocate for our networks’ success.

In addition to this, you’ll guide our volunteers and colleagues through ongoing transformation, helping them build skills to support new and existing networks effectively.

On a day-to-day basis, you’ll lead a team of 14 people from around the world, providing leadership, development and support.

You’ll collaborate with internal teams across the IET, to devise a global community offering that drives strategic growth, provides value for members, inspires our volunteers, and helps drive the discourse around emerging technologies.

You will work closely with our community volunteers around the world, especially our oversight committee to ensure engagement. You’ll monitor activities to ensure alignment with the IET’s goals.

By building strong relationships with stakeholders, you'll advocate for the networks, amplifying the voice of customers and volunteers and ensuring they remain responsive to the evolving needs of the global engineering community

What we hope you can bring to the role

We’re looking for someone with strong experience in developing, managing, and growing teams – of staff and volunteers, both locally and globally. You’ll understand the value of volunteers and the benefit that thriving networks bring to member organisations, particularly in enabling knowledge sharing, member engagement, and professional development.

You’ll bring excellent skills in building relationships with volunteers, staff, and external stakeholders to deliver successful network outcomes. With a focus on community growth, you’ll have experience in creating frameworks that help groups form, evolve, and remain impactful.

Your strategic thinking and collaborative approach will ensure our networks are dynamic, aligned with the IET’s goals, and able to meet the needs of their members.

Your passion for connecting people, fostering collaboration, and helping networks succeed will make you a key driver in supporting the IET’s mission.
